Power locks and windows quit working

The power windows and locks just quit working right out of the blue. Actually, the power locks make a noise like they are actuating in super slow motion but they still don't work. The fuses are all OK. One strange thing though, when I press the buttons for the driver side window and locks with the door closed, the door light comes on.

thanks

Let's take this one step at a time. Remove your drivers side door panel so you can have access to your switches. You will need one of those $1 12volt probe testers available @ any auto parts store. You need one with a sharp probe on one end and an alligator clip on the other. Now it's time to get to work. Attach the clip to a good ground and start probing wires one by one. Work all the switches as you probe to see if you have juice in each wire. If all the wires check out "hot" while working the switches then you will have to dig a little deeper because I suspect because your door light is coming on, you have a short and it will probably be in the rubber boot where your wires go from the door to the door frame. You can very carefully cut the boot with a razor knife to expose your wires. Don't cut deep and try not to cut into the wires. I suspect that somewhere inside the boot you will find your trouble!
Good luck!

ahhh don't listen to him about cutting the boot!!!!!
it just pulls out of either the door or the door jam, just gotta play with the rubber lips that hold it in place.

Thanks for your replies. I found the prob. The ground must have shorted out in the boot or where it comes through into the truck where it's not accessible without tearing the whole dash out. I cut the ground behind the door panel where I knew it was good, stripped the end, soldered a new ground wire to it and ran it through the door boot to the ground bolt behind the Driver side kick panel. What a PITA. I didn't have to cut the boot. Kinda strange for this to happen out of the blue like that.
