Inside that mixing chamber thing can look like this:
I do NOT recommend a pre-pump filter like he used. Just use a WIX 33972 before the pump by cutting the steel line several inches before pump and clamping 5/16" hose from it to pre-filter, then filter to pump.
You can FIX this poor OE design for about $20 on a budget!!
Fuel line disconnect tool is ~$10 at the autoparts store.
the ring on the tank can be a pita. look at the thread on the ring and the tank. They only start in one place. line them up(backed off just a leetle) and then push the ring down till it kinda snaps in place. needs to be pushed down all the way around and level. Then I used a large flat screwdriver and hammer to spin it on. I also supported the tank at each end and not in the middle to keep from breaking the pick up foot off when the tank flexed.
Like Jason suggests, get rid of the in tank screens. just a problem waiting to happen.
Replace those frustrating OE fuel clamps by cutting off the line and clamp, and using Diesel-rated fuel line 30R9 and regular hose clamps, from the tank to the fuel pump. This will also fix some vacuum-related leaking issues that can occur with the OEM clamps.
Cleaned filters in mixing cup, put everything back together...she fired up and ran rough but still better than it ever had. 2 new injectors and she hauls ***!
