Hard Start, Missing

I have an 02 F350 with a 7.3 diesel in it. Last summer, It started to start hard, almost killing the batteries. When it did start, it would run fine for about a 1/2 mile, then blow white smoke, stall out, or run like only 2 or 3 cyls. were firing. It would then restart, and after blowing white smoke for about 20 seconds, would clear up and run fine for the rest of the day. I finally found out my fuel pump was working intermittently, because it stopped running finally. After changing out the fuel pump, its been fine for almost a year. 2 weeks ago, it started doing it again. I changed my fuel filter, added a can of Sea Foam to the tank, and changed the fuel pump again, which had a small drip, courtesy of Autozone parts. Well, its still the same, but having to be cranked more every day to get it to fire. I believe I have enough fuel pressure. I didn't put a gauge on it, but it does fill up very quickly, and is clean. Any thoughts? I'm wondering if my HPOP is leaking, seeing as I have noticed a small oil leak lately, and there is oil in my valley. Thanks guys.

Do you have a check engine light that's on? Have you ever looked at the UVCH?

I have no CEL on, never had it last year either. It seems like a fuel issue. If my hpop is leaking, would that cause it to not power my injectors enough to run correctly until the oil level came back up in the hpop?

Yes, but low oil pressure from the HPOP would set a CEL. Fuel pressure issues won't set a CEL, neither will worn injectors. If the truck has had less than ideal maintenance in terms of oil changes, then your problem could be worn injector internals. If it starts fine after it's warmed up, or it starts better if you plug it in for a few hours first (in the summer), then worn injectors is worth checking.

The cheap way to check is to remove the valve covers and get a helper to try and start the truck with a cold engine. Watch the oil discharge from each injector. They should all be spitting the same amount of oil. If you've got several not spitting oil when cold, but start to spit oil after the engine warms up, it's time for some new injectors.
