I am swapping engines in my truck.....the one I am taking out is a 76. The dizzy has the smaller cap and the electronic box does have the blue grommet under it. The donor engine is out of a 79 truck. The dizzy in it has the bigger cap and also has the blue grommet on the electronic box. My question is what are the differences between the distributor itself and the boxes. Visually the distributors look the same and my understanding is that the duraspark II is a better ignition system but I am not noticing the differences, as you can tell i am a little ignorant to this.
Avoid the Duraspark distribs like the Plague.
They have caused me nothing but problems & costing me thousands in repairs.
The first time the cage that supports the electronics under the cap warped & broke, then the Shaft on the replacement snapped.
Causing major timing issues w/ massive backfires, bent push rods & valves on both occasions.
Go w/ a Mallory Distrib or a drop in E.I. such as a Pertronix.
