Had a little problem towing the 5er home last weekend. Front pass. side slide pins froze up with brake pad pretty much closed. Had to drive it like this through a windy hilly pass for about 8 or 9 miles. My wife could smell it burning ( my nose is shot so I didnt smell it). Anyway by the time I could pull over safely it was steaming hot. Luckily there was a small rv /campground nearby. Got the wheel pulled & the slide pins cleaned up & greased,& made it home safely the next day. My question is should I go ahead & replace the caliper as it got very hot, although no leaks yet, there is a crack in the seal. Also can these be rebuilt or best to get a reman Ford caliper ? Truck has about 105 k on her. Weird thing is the rotor looks ok.- Good to be home. Thanks for any & all advice.
No expert but I would take the rotor in and have it checked to see if it has warped. If it is good, I would still replace my pads, Both Sides, even though you only had problems on one side.
The slide pin froze up for a reason. Do you perform regular maintenance on the pins? If not calipers can be rebuild but for the cost I just replace them. I just did new rear calipers and brackets because the came with everything and the weren't expensive at all. I did not use Ford ones. I think mine were A-1 or something like that. Do a brake fluid flush while you're there too. Kill all the birds with the same wrench!
Might want to look at the disc too make sure its not warped.

I will get the rotors checked.

Good Luck...
Yes I just had them replaced with the new ford pins in 2010. I think the problem is my truck sits alot. I only use it when we go camping so I only put about 2500 miles a year on it. I need to make it a point to drive it more frequently.
