timing..???
i m pretty new at this but i have seen some work but i have fresh rebuild 429 in my truck which havent been fired in few months what shd i do before i fire it up? and i know i need number 1 piston on comprseeion and rotor pointing to number one on cap and what degree so i put the dampner to? 0 degree? or what? i m not sure about this.. there any way i can lube up engine before i fire it up and need some more info on timing and degree and what to watch befopre i fire it up the beast been waiting to be REBORNED!!! i installed a a 429 into my f250 4x4, email me if someone know anything about this?

I use a 1/2" drill with an 18" shaft with a socke brazed on which fits over the oil pump drive shaft. Attach a mechanical oil pressure guage, pull the valve covers and run the drill until you have oil pressure and see oil coming out of the push rods.
You have the timing correct, it is TDC on the dampner. Advance it about 5 degrees for initial firing. Have you broken in the cam?

I've done the same thing with the drill and it worked great. Just don't drop the littly clip thinging off the shaft and into the oil pan - not that I'm talking from experience or anything....
