Gear Shift

I can't get my gear shift out of park and into gear without turning the key part way and then going to neutral to start it. I changed the ignition switch, but to no avail. Can you help me with this problem? 1997 F-250 HD, tilt wheel. Thanks

Fix your brake lights and you'll usually fix the shifter problem. This symptom is not caused by the ignition switch.
