Poo88

So...here is my story. Right now I am in Midland Texas. Parked at a RV park in the dirt and the truck is parked in the shop at the Ford dealer.

I had the 11B23 flash couple years ago. In April it threw the Poo88 code so I got the TSB 12-7-7 update.

Towed heavy several times since and all was well. Even had some nice hot tows up I68 so problems.

So today outside of Midland I got the code again. I cleared it and it came right back. Fueled up and thought I would try again. no dice within few miles it was back on again.

Coolant temps have been running where you would expect in Mid 90 deg weather..around 210 with 220-228 spikes followed by the airplane and a cooldown.

towing speed is 65. I tried to slow down a bit but to no avail.

So what are the possiblilites that the TSB did not take?

Personally I think I am getting some new hardware.

thoughts?

yup..I am thinking it is done. Guess I will know tomorrow. I'd like to think the flash did not take or was not done right but I don't see how.

When was the last filter replacement for both?
Maybe got some crap from a station and your truck is not too happy about it.

When was the last fueling?

Maybe replace filters put in 4-6 bottles of cetene and let her rip.

it always bugs me about traveling in scary gas stations.
Who says they put the right gas in the right holding tank. How much water is in the holding tanks.

Did you check the HFCM? I have always heard that you should pull the filters and drain and keep your fingers crossed. Hope you have your last fuel receipts .....You had another fuel code last week too right?

so the truck has been performing flawlessly? no loss of power or no start? i would almost lean towards the update also if you haven't had any power loss. i seen a few fixes of the pcm update and fuel rail pressure sensor but most fixes are the pump.

test
<table class="ADVV1-HotlineArchives-Whites" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td class="ADVV1-HotlineArchives-LeftRuledRows">
</td> <td class="ADVV1-HotlineArchives-RuledRows"> 1. First inspect the connectors 1916 and 1926. Be sure both are plugged in and no debris is found in the connector.

2. If the connectors are ok, it may be necessary to access the back of the high pressure pump area, there have been some cases of wire chafes near the high pressure pump.

3. If the connectors are ok, the PCM should be updated first as per the attached TSB. If the code returns, the high pressure pump will likely need to be replaced as per the other attached TSB.

4. It is important to note, any time a high pressure pump is replaced, the injector relearn should be reset using a scan tool.

yup..i think it is more than likely a VCV issue or the pump itself. No other codes and no chafed wires.

Would the AirDog help prevent this?

I am not so sure. I am not totally sure why the failure. I know it is not water, nor is the HPFP coming apart.

There is no metal throughout the system.

My gut say VCV is the main issue. An Airdog or anthing else for that matter would not prevent that.

At any rate it should be up and running by COB tomorrow.

I am using the GEICO MBI insurance to pay for the repairs. so I am out 250 bucks plus my time at the campground here.

So all in all it could have been worst.

Won't be a totally ruined vacation just had to cut a couple of days out of it.

The vcv or pcv both are mounted on the pump. Yes, they're non serviceable. The reflash was to widen the perameters to make them work. It was an effort by Ford to make Navistars equipment work.

So with a new pump...any chance this will still be an issue? Or is the new pump/controls designed a bit different?
