Found it!

This is the source of my coolant leak. It is the o ring for the intake manifold. Why would this o ring deteriorate this bad in 27k/2yrs. Engine was thouroly flushed with distilled water and cat ec-1 installed.

might have got pinch on install

last time I had mine off it had 75K or so and looked great

fact I had a New One that came with the Gaskets and it was A lot fatter to the Point I worried that it might hold the Intake manifold up so I opted to reuse the Old one and No Problems

That sucks its a fair amount of work to get the intake manafold off there

That's no lie I was planning on doing a flush and oil cooler this fall when it is cooler out (only 112 or so here in AZ) so I am going to install a new oil cooler while I have it apart. But I could not do a flush due to the fact it was leaking so bad. I am sill getting debris in my coolant filter. And my delta went from 3-5 degrees to 9-11 since the head job and new cooler then.

I posted in your other thread before I saw this one. Glad you found the culprit.

If a chemical flush was done when the other repairs were done, there could still be some chemical left in the system. I would recommend doing a flush with water to get the system cleaned out before any more gaskets fail.

Is it spongy? It could be a diesel leak that you don't know about.

Another Option^^Good Thinking sean

For a Flush I would take thermostat out open bluck drains and use a hose in the thermostat Housing that will kinda reevrse flush the Block and Front cover

even stuff that hose in upper radiator port flush it

Stick it to heater hose by alternator flush there witth Hose let it run out other side

Myself and others have stuffed a Hose everywhere I could and let the water run threw

some even let it run with some drains cracked and hose on and continuously Flush as truck Idles

IT CAN BE FLUSHED NOW

two years ago I did a restor and restor plus flush then kept flushing for a couple of days because I could not get clean water out. then finally gave up and pulled the heads and did all the mods to the top end. then after reassembly flushed it a few more times still could not get 100% clear water out. Between the two flushing's I lost count but I think I flushed 60 or 70 times. Then after about 10k my delta started to go up so I used "nylons" reverse flush method and flushed the entire system. So the system has been flushed many times and I will flush it during this repair. The o ring edges match up but the inside is eaten up and no it is not spongy it is pretty solid just eaten away but the entire outside is there. I am pretty **** about cleaning and reassembly and getting it right I do not like to do things twice. I just wish I could find a reason for this.

Ok, So that removes the diesel and oil eating it.
You used distilled water and not deionized?
Deionized water is very active and will eat things.
BUT I don't think that rubber is one of the things.
Cast iron, aluminum, steel, copper and most any
other metals along with some plastics. I understand
that it will also very happily chew on calcium too.

Anyway back to the topic at hand....... I am out of ideas
