Daisy chainers

Got my second Scangauge II and my daisy cable in the mail tonight. I wonder if the second unit will work as a monitor to the first unit, meaning it will just be a second screen for the first one, or if I will need to program the X-gauge codes into the second, just like I did in the first. Anybody know?

Define "daisy cable", it should just be a straight through CAT5 cable from 1 gauge to the next right?

Pretty much. Actually sold by Linear Logic (makers of the ScanGauge II) specifically to link 2 units together.

I'm betting you have to program the x gauges in the second one as well.

I think you're probably right. I'll hook it up in the morning and then I'll report the results.

Let us know, I've been thinking about getting another to monitor 8 pids at once.

Will do. I plan to put the ones I really want to monitor only when towing on the new one and just pull it out then.

The topic sounds like some thing fatal.
Have you called the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention yet?

I too think that your going to have to program
the second unit.

Those who voted that programming the second unit would be necessary are correct. I'm assuming from here that the information just passes through the first unit to the second. Thus, I can load any x-gauge into any slot on the new unit without regard to what slot that same PID was in on the first unit. I'll program this afternoon, make sure that's true, and report.

I was going to get another gauge, but I saw a few posts on the internet that said that when they hooked 2 ScanGauges up, that the refresh rate was too slow and they were experiencing intermittent error readings. I figured it was probably more trouble than it was worth, but if you have good luck with it, I'll probably try another one.

Too early to tell as to how happy I'll be long term, but it is working now. You can put whatever PID into whatever slot you want without confusion occurring. I'll follow up in a few days and tell you what I think. Refresh does not seem to be an issue yet.

Well, it's been 8 days now and there are problems. If I just start the truck, more than half of the time, some of the PIDs will not show a value at all. Almost always, if I push the red circled button after turning the key on to cycle the glow plugs but before starting the truck, all PIDs will display correctly. Occasionally, even if all PIDs start correctly, some PIDs will just freeze and show whatever value they were showing when they froze for as long as the drive continues. In short, I don't think I recommend getting a second unit and daisy chaining them. Though I believe the data that it shows is correct as long as it is running, I can't really count on any particular PID running at any given time. Obviously, the 2 units are much less reliable than the single unit I had before. Not sure what I plan to do now, but I welcome suggestions.

IIRC from what I've read, I need a blue tooth adapter at my OBDII port and an app downloaded onto my iPhone. What's the out of pocket expense to get set up (roughly)?

$169.00. Dashboss is a great deal for someone who already has an iphone, ipad or itouch. Unfortunately it's pricey because of the Apple licensing involved. But you get 12 PIDS on one screen with easy access to 12 more on 3 screens, plus it's super easy (takes seconds) to change a PID as go.

For a droid user the Torque app with a Bluetooth adaptor is the ticket.
