The meter-needle became erratic today. Once it gets to about 30 the needle jumps to 40 or more. Pulled cable from trans, gears look fine. Drill attached to cable end does not actuate meter-needle. Is the cable a dealer only item? I've seen 'universal' cable kits, but those that I could see had different ends. It's too hot to fool with making a kit work.
Thanks for any help/advice/part number.
by any chance is that 'clark' 4spd od a T170 aka SROD? at any case, the cable, tranny section and head section are available from LMC last time I checked, or yank em from a boneyard.
if she twisted off in the head due to a bad gear set, you can replace the dash unit with one with gauges and a tach if you have gauges to start - its a drop in that I did on the same truck

Thanks for the reply. According to my shop manual it's a Clark manual 4-sp OD.
LMC....I'm familiar with their work. I have a couple of clusters and had intended to use one with a tach, but it's more trouble then it's worth dealing with the different circuit boards etc.
I appreciate the response, thanks
The only place I can find the cable is LMC and it's on the way to me. This AM I took a trip I've made 100s of times, that I know the mileage by heart. The Odometer recorded the correct mileage, but the meter-needle continued the same behavior as yesterday. Does anyone understand why the Odometer works properly but the meter-needle is erratic?? I'm at a loss....
Thanks
Dave
what I meant about the dash unit - if you have no tach, but have gauges, then a dash unit with gauges and a tach hooks right up - no messy wires. you can search a thread I had here for the stuff I did to my 81 f100.
ok, thanks. Next time it isn't 100°+ in the Sun, I'll pull the instrument panel and see what's what. I have 2 speedometers that came in the two clusters I bought some years ago....both with trip meters. I found a Ford shop manual for speedometers, in a small town about 30mi away. Should arrive tomorrow or Friday. Should help....
My cluster is a no gauge cluster.
I appreciate you helping me.
