One more thing, I don't want to come across as harsh. Really. I think, overall, you'll be disappointed with your setup if you went ahead a bought the monster amp and the PA's. You could get louder, sound better, and save money looking elsewhere. I'm just trying to point you in the right direction. Sorry if it comes accross as rude.
what are some other suggestions? dont really wanna go with rockford fosgate though. plus i am pretty sure i wont be able to fit the ****'s behind the seat. id have to go with their fubr series instead and build the sealed box which is what i wanna do anyhow. havent ever made a ported box before. i understand that the power ratings are mostly exxagerated. one thing about rf subs is they come with a paper saying the "actual power" its probably a little closer than most though. im looking for under 500 and this system may not be put in for awhile just wanted to start researching etc. i have better things im going to do first. and as what im looking for id look a good balance of spl and sq. i assumed that pa's ratings where exagerated thats y i was looking for someone with their system to say what they thought of the quality etc. im looking at the ed 10k sub u suggested. sounds like a good deal
ok id say ur reccomendation of the ed 10k subs and avionixx amp sounds like a good deal. now where is a good place to get them? straight from the ed site? or is there another website thats better. havent seen ed in any websites i have looked at.
Elemental Designs is the ONLY place you can buy ED subs. The reason they sell for so little is they cut out the middle man. If you're not getting them immediately, visit their site every few days, or call them directly, and see when the new package deals are coming. For $500, though, you could get a 10A, port it (they have a blueprint of the box on their site with all the measurements, so it's like putting together a puzzle). The ported box would be small, too. 1 cubic foot (much smaller than the box for the PA's would have been). Grab a JBL 1200.1 off of ebay, and you're set. The 10 will be among the very best 10's you can get anywhere, for any price. If you port it, but don't tell your friends, I guarantee they'll think you have 2 12's. The look on their face when you tell them it's only one sub, and it's "only" a 10, The 12A, is just $5 more, and would get a tad deeper and louder. The A series is a monster, though.
A pair of 10k's, and the Avionixx 800.2, (ED has the best prices on Avionixx amps by far), or any 800-1000 watt amp, would also cause serious breathing problems
well one of my friends is gonna help me put them in so cant keep it from him lol. i want 2 10k subs. one thing is though i dont have much room behind my 79 truck seat. ported has to have 1 cube per speaker. the friend who will help me has about a 1 cube sealed box for his subs and thats about the same ammount of room i will have so i dont think i can go with the ported box. its a 4 spd so ill be running the clutch often and would like to be comfortable. so i will pry go with the sealed box instead.
2 sealed K's, with 800ish watts, will still get obscenely loud in the small cabin of your truck. They'll sound great, too. Let us know how it all works out.
i pry wont be getting them for awhile. got other priorities for the truck and i could always use another gun lol. ima watch the site and maybe call and see if they got any upcoming deals. ill tell you as soon as i get em in
ok i have one last question (hopefully). i remember u telling me about the jbl 600.1 amp for under 200. would this be a good amp for the ed 10ks if i wired them together? or would this put out too much power for the subs?
The 600.1 would be a perfect match. It does about 700 watts, rms at 1 or 2 ohms. ED's rated rms on each sub is like 300-350. So the JBL will get the very most out of them. I would get the SVC 4 ohm version of the K's, so you cab run the JBL at 2 ohms.
Quick wiring tutorial for those 2 subs, so they come out to a final 2 ohm load:
Wire the positives of both subs together, then wire it to the positive of the amp. Wire the negative of both subs together, then wire it to the negative of the amp. Done...enjoy
hmm i think i might have to do that. now just gotta find some money since i have other plans first and barely have enough money for them. plus unexpected money i have to put in after i get it back which is hopefully minimal. it should be anyhow.
