Spur of the moment, I ordered all the components for the bass aspect of my system. I think I may have gone just a little bit overboard...at least for my tastes.
The two 10" Pioneer subs handle 350W RMS each and the Power Acoustik amp puts out 310W RMS X 2 channels. I think I matched that up pretty well...but my ears are used to just one 200W 10" behind the seat of my old Ranger. Will those two subs installed under the back seat be deafening? Or did I plan it just right?
P.S. I will post pics of the install once the box arrives Tuesday.
no worries....at all. Just be absolutly sure you put them in a sealed enclosure. That amp, I believe, only does an honest 600 watts. So your fine, especially considering the boxes ive seen are usually downfire AND sealed. Id say go for it!
PS. Theres no such thing as too loud, but if there is for you...theres always the handy dandy bass output volume control. Oh and by the way, I have power acoustik amps in my truck too and they are freakin awesome. BUT BE WARNED! THEY GET HOT HOT HOT. Keep them out in the open and consider possibly wiring up some PC cooling fans because they will go into protect mode and shut off...thus exposing you to an embarrassing moment.
Thanks for the overheating advice. A relay and a cooling fan are now on the "Waiting to arrive" list along with the 4 gauge wire and the sealed, downfire box.
I had 15's in a mustang and at low volumes the bass was still loud. Just took some tweaking and working the 'gain' **** on the amp and the adjusts on the stereo. Have fun with it.
No such thing as too loud! Man, I sure miss hard hittin bass.
For cooling fan, I had old PC's and took out the power supply fan(they all 12v). I used one that was rated at .16Amps, so i just hooked it up to the Remote power. It kept things cool and I loved the sound it made when it first powered up .
You could get one of those cool LED fans that alternates colors too! BTW that's a long amp.. and also.. why doesn't it have larger fins to remove some of that heat? Are they going design before function now?
The rounded edges on the top and bottom are actually hollow tubes with a few more fins inside. This is where I'm going to mount the fans to flow through the tube and over the outside. A color changing fan would be neat, except the amp is behind the rear seat back rest...which is why I decided on two small fans, top and bottom. The amp is mounted, and the subs are installed in the box. Now I just need to fab my own seat lift (the ones sent with the box were flaming piles) and I need the 4 gauge wire to arrive. Then all will be installed and thumping.
UPDATE: The system is installed and functional. The interior of my truck is still in pieces on the garage floor, but it makes noise. I'll get some pictures tomorrow when I put everything back together, clean up, and fine tune everything.
I have the same subs in my truck running of a wimpy 300w Max amp and they still hit hard. Just put them in my lil' bro's car using his 1000w Class D Pioneer amp and they thump. Now he's talkin bout buyin them from me, which is good so I can by the Pioneer 12" designed for trucks/Suv's.
