yeah I understand.. im new to this also.. but learning quickly from this site.. the best guys on here our stanleyz & senix...very reliable! I don't do any towing either...pretty much a concrete cowboy...I have too much $$$$ invested to tear it up...but from what I heard the more aggressive tunes..do get you better gas mileage.. it's all in how you drive it.. im 27...but I drive my truck easy for the most part like an old man.. AS FOR THE guys who say there getting these UN-REAL mpg's(unless it's an aggressive tune)... you can chalk that up to the people who say they have seen BIGFOOT! Good luck with your truck!

Bigfoot, ya I've seen him(that's me!! 6'3, 320 LB'S,), I run the big tunes but drive like an old man>>probably because I'm old.
A lot of it is driving habit, I owned a 01 F350 with the V10 for almost 10 years, I became an expert on fuel conservation, getting MPG with the 6.4 is kids play.

Bubbasz1, I am admittedly a novice when it comes to diesels. In your opinion, given what I've said about how I drive and what I'll be towing, would I be better off sticking with what I have or would it be worth while to go with a higher hp tune. I mean, sure it would be nice to get another mile or two out of a gallon, but I don't want to take a chance on tearing something up and having to spend big bucks either. I'm already getting 2 to 3 mpg better than I did with my 2011 6.2. Maybe I should just be satisfied with that.

Well, expert I'm not, this is my first diesel, I've owned it for about 10 months. I read and read, took me a while to get to the high tunes(no power setting) do what's comfortable for you. After you have owned it for a while and your comfort level increases maybe you will try a higher tune. If your not comfortable with it right now don't, couple of MPG'S isn't worth piece of mind.
i only notice a small gain in mixed city/hwy. 13-14 city 18-19 hwy to 16 city 20 hwy. My best improvement is towing my 35' 5er weighing in at 10,000 with all my wifes "essentials" i got about 4.3 mpg gain using the "tow proformance" tune from spartan. i only use the tow/haul button to slow it down. Anyone pulling that much weight averaging 14 is one happy dude.

Sounds like you picked up a couple of mpg around town and 1-1.5 on the hwy. Is your truck 2wd or 4wd? I'm getting 14-16 (depending on the mix) mixed city/hwy. I've seen as high as 19.5 hwy, but that was unloaded on a 50 mile trip. Haven't tried towing yet. Not bad mileage, just not much (or any) of an impovement over what I was getting. I bought an AFE air filter that I'm gonna put on today. Don't know if that will yield any measurable results, but we'll see.
i have CCSB 4x4 with 3.73 gears, i might have been misleading on that post. I have done alot to my truck other than dpf delete. the tonneau cover, egr removed. no limit intake bla bla bla. all of these things together net me those gains. i did it all at once so couldn't tell you individually, dpf/egr was more towards longevity of the engine. now i need to worry about tranny.
edit: in all my time with trucks 3.55 are for guys who dont tow anything and do at least 50% hwy driving. 3.73 is where its at for mix driving and towing. for best MPG just my 2 pennies. lower gearing will pull harder to get you up to speed but lets be honest nobody these days does 55mph anywhere.

I hadn't given much thought to the gears, but my truck does have the 3.55 rear end. I should be well under 10,000 lbs. towing, so I think I'll be fine there. But I thought the 3.55's would help with fuel economy. My understanding (or lack thereof) might be backwards.
yep the F250 only comes in 3.55 or 3.31 now. and they also have 6speeds. so the ratio's might be closer to overcome that lack of power getting up to speed. not sure, i cant speak for the new 6.7's. with 3.73's pulling my gross weight of truck trailer and gear I'm just over 17.5k and my gearing is just barely adquate. People always seem to forget to add the truck when their towing. your already at 4 tons before adding all your crap fuel trailer etc.
