MPG after dpf delete

Not sure if there is a thread that addresses this already, but I searched the forum and got over 100 pages. So if this is a repeat, I'm sorry. But I was wanting to get some feedback on what kind of mpg guys with the 6.4 who have had the dpf delete are getting. I have a 2010 6.4 crew cab 4x4 with 3.55 gears and 275's. I had the dpf and egr delete done about 3 wks. ago with a custom tune by 5 Star. So far, I haven't really seen a noticeable difference. I get 14-15 mixed hwy/city and I have seen as high as 19.5 on a 50 mile trip that was mostly hwy at 65mph. Typically see 16.5-17 on the hwy at 60 mph on shorter trips. I'm not complaining. I think that's pretty good, but I was seeing that before. I was expecting to pick up a couple of miles per gallon.

I don't think your going to pick up a lot, most people claim around 10%, I get 17 to 19 everyday and freeway is low 20's. My everyday is about 7 miles city and 20 miles highway.

i think we need to clarify how we are figuring MPG's first also considering my lie-o-meter can be up to 3 mpg's off. i have seen as low as i believe 9mpg hand calculated pulling a 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer weighing about 9k lbs with a sled in the bed going ~80 mph with strong headwind. now the best i have gotten hand calculated empty is 17mpg i have seen the lie-o-meter up to 22.1mpg. on average i would say the computer is 1-2 mpg lower than hand calculated. these are all dpf cat delete so cant say with dpf as it was previously removed.

I get about 17 on the hwy myself running my dpf on with the banks 6 gun.

Need to hand calculate it though. Miles/gallons.

I guess I should have said I am talking about unloaded, everyday driving. On my truck, the lie o meter actually seems to tell the truth most of the time. My everyday is probably pretty close to 50/50 hwy/city. Stop and go driving kills it, but I normally see 14-15. Like I said, I don't think that's bad for such a big truck. I guess I was expecting a big difference after the delete from stuff I've read others are claiming.

it could also depend on the tuning you have. they say the higher horse tunes can yield higher mpgs if you can stay out of the boost.

My lie-o-meter if reset on the freeway will hang around 24 to 26, but I have seen it as high as 28 on a long flat stretch about 60 miles. I've never had a full tank on one of those times to do a valid check. I run the Hot damn level on my H&S with no power.

I got a roughly 20% increase in mpg. I did a cat/dpf delete with H&S tuner. Mild tune, no power. I went from 13-14 average mpg to 16-17. My rig is a 350 longbed 4x4 with shell (pictured) I have 3.73 gears, & 275's on 20" wheels.

I talked to the guys at 5 Star today and they also mentioned maybe trying a higher HP tune to yield better results. Mike Butler told me he knows a guy with 35's on his truck that is getting 20 mpg hwy with the same tune I have though. I don't do a lot of heavy towing. I pull a pontoon boat and I'm getting ready to buy a 5th wheel camper. Randy said he didn't think the higher hp/torque tune would hurt me as long as I didn't drive the **** out of it and only towing what I just mentioned. I drive pretty conservatively and don't tow all that often, but I'm a little nervous about trying the higher HP to gain mpg. Is the risk worth the benefit? This is the first diesel I've owned, so all of this is new to me. I'm learning though, mostly from you guys.

I don't know what harm comes to your truck on the high tunes if you don't push down on the skinny pedal, I force myself every so often to give it more than half throttle just to blow a little carbon out(well maybe force isn't a good verb) but I have yet to do a full throttle anything>>really, it's a 6,500 LB truck, I mean lets be real.

my rule of thumb is less than 10K I will tow tuned.

Over 10K in stock power only.

I don't know what harm would come either. I'm not hard on my truck at all. I might give it enough gas to drop down into passing gear to go by a slower car every now and then, but that's about it. I don't foresee a situation where I would be towing over 10,000 lbs. either. Like I said, just the camper and the boat. So, I would probably be OK with the higher HP/torque tune. I just don't want to risk doing engine damage for a couple of miles per gallon. I'm a pretty mechanically inclined guy, but I'm no mechanic either. I know you can be talking about some serious $$$$ when these things tear up.

if you use your tow/haul you may not want to use it while tuned with the high hp. h&s retains the stock tow/haul trans tuning and that would not like the higher hp tune from the engine. not sure how your trans is tuned but something to think about or ask about

Sounds like you're getting as good as I'm getting, and my truck has no lift and 275's. Been averaging 14-15 mixed, which as I said before, isn't bad per say. I just expected to see it jump. Best I've seen is 19.5 mixed, but that was a mix of about 80/20 hwy/city on a 50 mile trip. I'm not expecting to get 20 mpg driving around town. After all, it is a 7000# truck. I was just curious why I'm not seeing some of the same results I read others posting on here after having theirs done. I don't know anything about tuning, but I'm thinking it must boil down to the higher hp tunes. I don't have a tuner on mine, it was flashed locally by 5 Star. They told me it wasn't a real high hp tune, but I should pick up 2 to 3 mpg, which I haven't. After talking to them the other day to see what their thoughts were, they offered to put a higher hp tune to give it some more torque. I don't tow that often, only in the summer, and then it's just a pontoon boat and soon to be a 5th wheel camper, which still would weigh less than 10,000#. Randy at 5 Star said I should be fine not towing any heavier or any more often than I do, but I'm still nervous to try the higher horses. I still don't know enough about these trucks to know if the benefit outweighs the risk for a little more fuel economy. Don't want to fry the motor for a couple of mpg, if you know what I mean.
