1997 F 250 HD diesel 215k. Today I started the truck no issues. Idled for about 5 mins then out of nowhere it started to idle very rough and no power once on the pedal. Oil is full, fuel filter looks good. I disconnected the <acronym title="Injection Control Pressure">ICP</acronym>, started the truck and all was back to normal for about 10-15 secs then back to rough idle and no power once on the pedal. Now its rough idle <acronym title="Injection Control Pressure">ICP</acronym> connected or not. I do not have a scanner for error codes. The check engine light comes on only while running not in the start position. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The only thing I noticed recently was a occasional faint smell of diesel when walking past the truck when parked in the driveway.

Sounds like you could have a sticky ipr. It would sure be nice to know the code though. We're kind of shooting by the hip without it. From what you are saying though, that is my guess. I wouldn't go buying one without knowing that code to make sure that is the problem.

It can, but its not always successful. It's more a bandaid if it works. If you pull it and try, you will for sure need an oring kit for it. The only rebuilding I think just involves taking it apart and cleaning it.
Started this am fine. Idle and rev almost smooth. Check engine light on while running. Not sure if I should drive it. Looking for a place to have codes read.
Thanks for the advise. I'll have more time tomorrow to look at it. I found an <acronym title="Auto Enginuity Software">AE</acronym> with Ford bundle for $300 but I think the bundle only covers diesels 1999 and newer, I am looking into it. Today I disconnected the <acronym title="Injection Control Pressure">ICP</acronym> again and started right up, Idled great and pretty smooth on the pedal. After approx. 2 mins idling went back to surging and lack of power.

Turns out it was the UVC wires and connectors as well as the connectors on top. Bought a kit from NAPA.Did some splicing, all is well. Thanks for your help
