Have not had the truck running yet. I tried some ether and it wanted to start but no go. I've cracked the injectors and I'm getting fuel there so......
It needs to turn over pretty fast, as in good starter, cables, and batteries etc. as well as working glow plugs. If it is getting fuel injected into the cylinders and not starting, you will see pretty heavy white "smoke" (vaporized fuel) from the tailpipe.
Try the ether again, i can start mine on ether when it barely has enough battery to crank over as long as fuel is there. Ive had the best luck with Johnsons yellow can (7.3 in my 79 is ether start)
If its sat for some time they can be a royal bearcat to get goin again.
Pull the fuel filter fill with ATF, crack injector lines and crank until you have atf at all 8. Re-fill filter with atf, tighten injector lines, crank some more. After a couple hours go back out and try to start it with ether.
Make damn sure your glow plugs are disconnected, or wait long enough for them to cool... minute or so i imagine to be safe.
I'm with you hairy noodle lol. I've watched that video again and again. It's a fuel problem. Not sure exactly what problem. And it may have other issues. I had a bad hole and it was a lifter that the roller broke off. But it still ran. Just smoked like crazy. I would stick with the ether. I ran mine on only ether for a minute or so to bleed the fuel system when I put the New engine in. My opinion on ether is that it's only dangerous when used by anyone but me though lol.
