power upgrades

looking for some simple mods/upgrades for my 93 F250 7.3 IDI. mostly for power and tourqe but also exhuast sound. I have a 3 inch banks exhuast and k&n Filter. Everyone says a six inch exhaust is the way to go with diesel but it seems a bit overkill. Cold Air intake? turning the pump up a bit? Headers?(if possible on diesel)

Also, Im running what I believe to be a four inch lift. (add a leafs, no blocks) 35s. I dont beleive the PO did any gear changes, wondering if its worth it.

Im here to learn so everythings welcome, thanks

more than likely the gear swap will be your simplest performance mod.

I'm new to this but I'm pretty sure a 4 inch exhaust will be plenty of flow. 6 inches sounds like a little overkill. When it comes to a re-gearing, what set of gears do you recommend and how difficult is it to find said set?

Swap your rear for a set of 4.10s, will pull better, but mileage will suffer.

and get rid of that k&n piece of crap filter.
they let dust particles through, and dust is a diesels worst enemy.

running a k&n filter is about the same as running no filter at all.

Awesome. Already running 4.10s and I get 17 mpg mixed driving. I don't think that is too bad.

if your turbocharged with one of the big 3,then 3" is pretty much all ya need.back in the day, banks did some dyno runs and claimed their 3.5" "monster" exhaust was good for a little bit over their 3" standard.so it's likely 3.5" is all the idi engines will benefit from.

"The standard Banks pipes and mufflers, as tested, have a 3-inch diameter, which has the ability to flow a lot more gases than the stock 2 1/2-inch system. An optional "monster" exhaust with 3 1/2-inch diameter tubing is also available. Banks told us that the larger-diameter system, which we did not test, is good for about 4 or 5 extra horsepower at peak rpm."

The thing to remember here is that you have larger tires, which effectively made your 4.10 closer to 3.73 or 3.55 compared to stock tires. The taller the tire, the less turns it takes to go the same distance.

There are plenty of options out there for more power. Having a turbo would have been one of the things you could have told us as far as things already done. Search button works wonders. There are currently multiple build threads going on to take a look through.

Okay thanks, also my turbo does seem to be outmatched by the manifold. What are my options for upgrading the turbo?

Right now the common alternatives are an HX35 or an Aurora 3000. Which turbo kit do you have?
