Steering just SNAPPED

1966 2wd f100 8 ft bed 300 inline 6. Manual steering and I heard a pop. What do I need to fix ? The steering knuckle looks to have broken under the hood. Just above the rag coupler, toast. Not the shaft, but the coupler on the end of it. The one above the "rag"

From your description it sounds like the rag joint broke. A picture would be a big help. I believe the coupler you mention is part of the rag joint.

By your description I'm guessing the upper rag joint flange?
Roger Carter is correct, we need a picture.

It was the rubber part on the steering coupling. Autozone, 10$. Never had that happen before. Many thanks

Ask...and ye shall receive.
The flange is made as part of the steering shaft (3524), the steering coupler aka rag joint (3A525) bolts to it.

Ford sold the coupler as a one piece assembly, autoparts stores sell just the rubber portion.

It's called a rag joint, because the rubber portion is the same as a bias ply tire, has cloth threads woven into it.
