Arrg I need some help
I am building a 78 Bronco for my son and I can not get the steering right. The truck has been sitting for 15 years, but the previous owner put a lot of effort replacing things.
The steering seems to steer well to the right but almost will not steer left. I purchased a used power steering box and pump and had the same issue, and then replace it again with another used pump and box. So the same issue with the steering, I disconnected the steering at the pitman and turned the wheels to see if there was drag at the ball joints and their was not. But what i did notice was the steering shaft, when off seemed to turn free at the knuckle one way but hard the other. I think like most old fords the hood seal falls off and water leaks directly on this joint. so before I go and buy all new stuff, do you think the shaft is the issue
It's quite possible the u-joint in the steering shaft is the culprit. With the shaft off, try spraying a lube on the joint and working it in. My binding problem was a spindle u-joint that froze only one set of bearings.
