Mystery Block...help please!

I picked up a block, cranks, and several heads supposedly all are 390. I can't seem to get any info on my own searches so thought I would tap into the collective knowledge on here.

block: 8B13, C7ME-A, 352/32, and 46/352 (/ means over)
bore/stroke measurement: 4.065 x 4.003
cylinder center to center: 4.655

crank 1: 2T on a lobe, M010R010/V on base of crank

crank 2 (small block based on size): 3M 2C J8 - all on lobes and nothing else
Both cranks appear to be forged steel cranks.

I will get the stamps soon and post that info as well. I'm trying to build a nice 390 and will be probing you guys for the info so I can come up with something in the mid to high power range maybe pushing around 350 to 400 hp.

thanks in advance all.

Wayne

2T is a 352/360 cast crank, it's been turned 10 under on both on the rods and mains. 3M is a cast 351W crank. I'm assuming one block is 4.06 and one is 4.00 ? The 4.06 is a 360/390/410 block, the 4 inch is a 352.

Thanks for the info. There is only one block, the 4.06 bore. So the block is a 360/390/410. Can the 2T crank be used in the 390 block? And what do the other casting numbers mean on the block?

8B13 is the casting date. 68-Feb-13.
C7ME-A is just the casting number. Not specific to 1 type of block and found on 352-390-410-428 blocks of that vintage.
The 352 and other numberss are just foundry mold identifiers. You'll see a DIF possibly which is Dearborn Iron Foundry where the block was cast. There's normally a assembly date which ws hand stamped by a ear by the lead edge of the head deck, left/driver side.

Yes, and you will have a 360. You have to use the longer rods and even then, the pistons will be over .100 down the hole.

Ford built them that way because they used existing parts and wanted low compression anyway.

2T crank in that block makes a 360. The 390 had a 3.78 stroke crank, the 410 a 3.98 stroke. You can buy aftermarket cranks to make even more cubic inch displacements,

so if i understand things correctly, i need to find a new crank in order to get the compression needed to obtain the best mileage and torque/hp. Or can a 360 be beefed enough to get solid mid range to high range hp/torque to move the 59 f100. will be used as daily driver and hunting rig, prob gonna end up being a toy hauler as well.

out of curiosity what do i look for on a 390 crank?

The 360 will make "decent" power, but you'll put the same amount of gas through it as a 390 with a bit more compression.

You need a servicable 390 crank and the rods that go with it. For pistons, you can go with a mid '60s car pistons, either flat top or dished, for compression in the mid 9s to low 10s. You can get away with more static compression if you have a more aggressive cam.

Recent discussion, the second thread is basically a continuation:

Thanks for replies. I have 6 heads that I am trying to pair up. The previous owner had all the info in his head and happened to take it with him when he passed. I think i two pairs, one for sure. Still cleaning them up to find the casting numbers.

Thanks again for the info. Can anyone tell me what casting numbers will be on a 390 crank?

390 cranks: C4AE, 2U and 3U, if you happen upon a 1U crank, jump on it, that'll be the 3,98 stroke 410/428 crank.
