D3TE is the casting number on an engine block i picked up, the pistons in it had 410 stamped on the side of the them. Is this a 360, 390, 410, or what?
It's most likely a 390, as the 390 and 410 are the same bore, so use the same pistons. You have to measure the stroke, or look at the casting #'s on the crank to verify. a 410 will have the 428 crank.... and, oh yeah, a 410 would be externally balanced.
if its a D3TE block it wont be a 410 or a 428 becuase it was a truck block, more than likely its a 360 but could be a 390, they used 410 pistons just to get rid of them. a D3TE block is a good block some can go .080 over to accept a 428 piston, i have one of them blocks.
It is very likely a 390. Ford used 410 pistons in the later builds to lower compression. This was a cheap and easy way to do it but you can make it right. The 410 piston does not come up to the top of the deck. Optimally you want your pistons to come up to the top of the block. It can be dished or domed from there to determine compression ratio.
