Hey all I have a 92 Ranger 4X4 5 speed STX 4.0 SOHC........The body is shot ie the cab and box. I wanna stick a new cab and box on it but in the process redo it. Take it down to the frame sandblast and paint do it right...And stick a gnarly 302 in it. So I'm sure all of you have done this and I never have so if you have any tips tricks do's and Don't even attempt trying this's please let me know. Thanks again. Curt

No you don't. The SOHC motor didn't show up till around '97-'98 in the Explorer. What you have is a 4.0L OHV pushrod motor, not an OHC motor. Just a detail.
Swapping to a 5.0L in a Ranger is a big deal. Doable, but its not a minor thing. You are gonna need a trans made for the 5.0L V8, some custom exhaust, and a few other things. Basically so long as you have access to the complete donor vehicle, its not too bad, you will have pretty much everything you need so long as you are handy with welding and can do basic fabrication.
