Found a 1990 2wd reg cab ranger with the 2.9 and 5 spd for $600 today. The owner says it isn't getting fire to the plugs and when putting new flywheel in, he broke the hydrolic line for the clutch.
I'm decent at doing my own repairs and want a light truck to drive to work. So this seemed up my alley.
Just wanted your opinions on this, as I have never fooled with these trucks.
If no spark, the ICM belongs on your suspect list, its a common problem part, as its mounted under hood, usually on the side of the distributor, or the passenger side inner fender well, so it gets wild temp swings & cooked by engine heat.
If that checks out ok, maybe have a look at the coil.
As this has a distributor ignition, have a good look inside the distributor cap at its rotor spark lugs, for excessive wear/gap or corrosion on them & at the rotor for signs of break down/carbon tracking inside, where it fits onto the distributor shaft. Motorcraft cap, rotor, wires & plugs are recommended, as they are designed for our ignition system, fit right & are of good quality.
Replacing the hydraulic clutch line shouldn't be too bad, but bleeding the system can be troublesome. Do a forum search on how to remove, hang up & bench bleed the system before installation, as it could save a good bit of time & frustration trying to bleed air from the system.
Some thoughts for consideration, let us know how your resurrection quest goes.
