I'm using the Fordification charts to decode the vin and warranty tags on the hiboy I just picked up. Something isn't lining up with the axle codes
Correct me if I'm wrong, but when I look at the chart, I see there should be 3 digits since this is a 4wd truck. First two are rear axle, and third is the front axle. There are only 2 digits, the number 24, which is a 4.10 D60 rear. Nothing after that.
Now I first thought well maybe the door was swapped, or something. But everything else seems correct and matches the VIN. Here's what's on it from left to right;
Wheelbase: 133
Color A: black
Type/GVW F262: F250 4wd 7700 GVW
Body AA4: Black all vinyl, Ranger cab w/styleside box
Trans A: NP435
Axle 24: Dana 60 4.10 rear
Below that, standard 7700 GVW, followed by location code of Seattle (74)
So, what's going on? I'm not overly concerned about what the front axle is, because I'm pretty sure it's a D44 and not a D60. Hubs looks too small to be a 60 front. But hey, you never know It's more for my curiosity than anything else

Thanks in advance

Even though Ford says the third digit in the axle code is info for the front axle, on 4WD applications it was not uncommon for Ford to list only whether it was equipped with power steering or the truck had an adjustable steering column (tilt).

Interesting. My truck has neither.
As far as the axle goes, from what I was reading I think it's a HD 44. The reason I say this is a website I was looking at Ford Dana-Spicer Model 44 Front Axle Parts 1976-1979 Mentioned that the heavy duty 44's had drilled and tapped flanges for bolt on hubs.
-Edit-
Now it occured to me that the light duty axle was probably the one found under the F100, F150, and bronco, while the HD was standard under F250's and F350's
