Hey everyone!! While reinstalling my front diff cover plate I noticed what looks to be a problem with my driver side upper balljoint. Please take a look in my gallery for a pic of whats going on. It's in the "balljoint" album.
Right underneath the castle nut you can see what I believe to be the camber bushing cocked at an angle. It looks like it's trying to work it's way out. It's a little fuzzy but you can make out what I'm dealing with.
Am I crazy or do I have a problem here? The passenger side is sitting level. I've had this truck for a little over a year and just got around to going through everything about a month ago. The balljoints are the only thing I haven't replaced yet in the suspension and steering.
Thank you for the comments macguyver! The 460 is actually bolted in now but I haven't got around to getting any decent pics yet. I'm not in a huge hurry right now since my headers on backorder for another few weeks. I'm just doing the hundreds of other "little" projects that come along with a 26 year old truck.
Well, it looks like the album got deleted or something. Million or Torque, did it get deleted since it's not directly related to my project? I don't have any way to host pics set up so I temporarily made an album to show the pic.
Maybe I have an offset camber bushing in the drivers side. I just don't know. I don't have any hands on experince with front diffs. I've been a drag racer most of my life.
I'll try and illustrate better in words. On the passenger side (which I think is normal) the entire bushing in the top pf the knuckle is sitting flush and level across the top of the knuckle. On the drivers side, the bushing sits flush on the inboard side of the knuckle but is sticking up about a 1/4" on the outboard side of the knuckle.
I can't say how I drives. The only time I've driven it was to tow it home. For having a nearly completely busted out rag joint it seemed to go fairly straight, just a slight pull to the left which may have been from the tow strap.
Ok here is my attempt at linking the pic of the driver's side. Just under the castle nut you can see the left side of the bushing?? is sitting flush with the knuckle. On the right side you can see it sticks up about a 1/4". Again, this part is flush all the way across on the passenger side.
