Steering box interchange?

Can anyone tell me which years/models the steering box is interchangeable with? My daughter has a '92 f-150 4x4, and her steering has a LOT of play in it, so I was hoping to find a new one in a junk yard. Are all 87-96 F-series the same? Broncos? Thanks.

when I did my 1981 F100 I found that the same PS box is used from 80 (or older) to 96 (or perhaps newer), however, I also found that you must use the bolts that are on your box if you switch from the 87-96 generation to the 80-86 cuz the 80's frame is narrower there.

Very cool... Shouldn't be any trouble finding one in a junk yard... Also, do you know if 4x4 and 4x2 boxes are the same too? I know I can just look for part numbers, but I haven't taken the old one out yet, and its pretty greasy and cannot read (or find) the number. Thanks again!

Actually this unit has been used in different cars/trucks since 1964, but for the sake of interchangeability you should go with F-series from the 80-96 vintages. There are several E-series that should interchange too, I'm sure.
