VIN Decoder

Greetings - I just purchase a 65 F100 as a project for my 14 year old son and me. I'm looking for help in decoding the VIN: F105N6844730. Any help on the original engine, transmission, colors, etc. is appreciated.

Welcome to FTE. You have some errors in what you are reporting as your VIN. The first three entries (F10) are correct and indicate a 2 wheel drive F100 truck. The fourth position should be a letter indicating the engine. For 1965 model trucks the only choices are D = 352 CI, 2 bbl V8; B = 300 CI, 1 bbl I-6; and J = 240 CI, 1 bbl I-6. The fifth position is also a letter, and yours (N) indicates your truck was built in Norfolk, VA. The last SIX are numbers and indicate when your truck was built. You provided seven numbers. If I use just the first six numbers (684473) then your truck was built in May, 1965. For other information such as colors, transmissions, axle ratios, etc. post the information from your warranty plate located on the driver's door edge and someone will be able to help you decode those. Enjoy your new project!

Thanks. I pulled the VIN off of the previous owner's insurance card. The deed has a different VIN: F10JN684730. Appreciate your response Sabre.
