61-66 Daily Driver Project Help
This is my first post but I have been reading up on a lot of the threads here and checking out the cool things that folks are doing to their old trucks. I got to thinking that 61-66 f100 with a 4 banger diesel conversion and some suspension upgrades is a project I'd love take on.
Let me cut to the chase. I'd like to go 4x4 with this thing, and I've got a beat on a 63 f100 4x4 that looks like it is in nice shape for a nice price. I'm hoping you all can weigh in and assist in the scope and feasibility of turning it into a daily driver.
-Disc Brakes Up-front (likley through an axle swap of a 70's truck)
-Found a 4bd2tc for sale with an adapter kit
-Rebuild front suspension for a softer ride
-Power steering??? No idea on this one. Seen some stuff about the toyota swap but not sure if that will apply.
If you have any comments about the above items it would be much appreciated. Looking for options, how much fabrication would be involved, etc. Thanks in advance.
1973: First year P/S available with 4WD. 1973/75 F100, 1975 F150 came with Garrison Power Assist P/S. Replacement parts are slim and none.
Ford integral P/S first offered in 1976 F100/150 4WD's.
If you had a 1966/76 F100 4WD, 1975/79 F150 4WD, swapping parts is EZ.
But, not so with 1961/65 F100 4WD's with leaf springs, the disc brakes, P/S won't work without serious mods.
There is very little you can do with leaf spring front suspension (steer/ride like ox carts) to gain a softer ride.
What would it look like to stuff a whole new front axle under that 63? Possible to convert from leafs to coils somehow?
Maybe I'll get exceptionally lucky and find a '66.
Redneck--I'd prefer the 4bd1 and would still hold out for one until the last minute, but I have not come across any in some time. I'm thinking of mpg's which is why I'm looking at a 4 cylinder.
