Just curious if anyone knows if the X/Superduty T-case is chain or gear driven. When i have mine in low range it has a whine like a gear whine. It has done this since day one. Never gave it a thought. I'm at Silver Lake MI. And cruising the dunes and was just curious, it was making the same sound last year. In 4X4 high it makes no noise, only in low. Otherwise no issues.
Might be the planetary gears in t case your hearing. I would change the oil if you haven't in a long time. They wont be engaged when in 4x4 high so that would explain the no noise in high 4x4
YEP, I kinda thought it was a chain. Yes the fluid change is due again. I now have 75k miles on it. Since I`ve had the X the 4X4 has approx. 100 miles on it 30 of those in 4LO in sand. Looks like I`m going to have to look into it! Thanks!
