driving along at highway speed today, and started to hear sort of whining noise. then transfer case popped out of gear. sat for a few minutes , re-engaged transfer case and drove for 10 or so miles. popped out again, put it back in gear, and when trying to put power through, i am getting grinding.
this is all in high gear. low gear seems to work. how bad can this be?? it is a np208 chain drive.
anybody else had similar problems?
I'm not 100% cetain but I believe the NP-208 like other aluminum/chain drive T-cases use a small oil pump to lube the internals of the T-case. The plastic may be whats left of the Pump. I suspect you're looking at a complete rebuild of it especially if it keeps popping out of gear and whines. Good luck.

eric, thanks for the feedback. you are right in stating that the case has an oil pump. i am pulling it out today to take the unit apart . i'll get back with results.
