I have a B1869 code and the srs light is always on. The code is for an open circuit in the light circuit. How can the light be on if there is an open circuit in the lamp circuit? What could be causing this DTC code?
According to the factory service manual, that code is defined as "Lamp Air Bag Warning Indicator Circuit Open or Short to Ground," it's not just for an open. If the circuit is shorted to ground, it will cause the light to be illuminated all the time.
The problem could be with the instrument cluster, the Restraints Control Module (RCM), or the wiring connecting them.
Hi, welcome to FTE. I just looked at a chart that shows that code as a fault with the air bag warning indicator - circuit open. Does the air bag indicator lamp come on briefly when you first start the engine? If not, the indicator lamp may be burned out.
I went to my local Ford dealer and the service department was kind enough to print out the pinpoint tests for the restraint system for me. After looking them over. I took out the center console to get to the SRS module and found the ground wire for the module was loose. I tightned the screw holding the ground wire to the body and the problem was gone.
No more light and no more codes!
Yep the fix was easy. There were two grtound wires attached to a screw just in front of where the SRS module is located. One is for the illumination lamp the other I think is for the case ground for the module. The hardest part was taking the console out. It doesn't seem to be removable in one piece so I had to remove the console in pieces. Most of the console is snap together and I spent more time looking for the screws than I did anything else.
