wheel adapter taboo's

so a lot of bad press on wheel adapters most of which is just sound boarding off what others have posted. After digging deep into this it turns out any wheel adapter steel or aluminum will have issue if you use the wrong nuts ...results in space between rim and hub and now your lug centric....and eventually the lugs will snap. Checked into a few aluminum ones and found that some use tappered bolts in which the back of the lugs are bigger than the stud holes.....these would be impossible to have studs break loose from hammer jack joe down at the tire center. So as long as you use the right nuts and wind up with a hub centric install....I think the aluminum adapters with tappered rear stud head bolts would get my thumbs up.

so can anyone out there provide 1st hand bad experience while at the same time admitting they installed them correctly?

Honestly, I can't imagine why you'd want or need wheel adapters for any kind of Super Duty or higher truck. Just get the proper wheels for the application.

No bad press from me. I wanted to put 18's on my 01 and found a set of old school King Ranch. I heard if I didn't get a spacer (depending on tires run) I would get frame rub when turning. Turned out the KRs came with 2" bolt on spacers. They have worked fine and I like pushing the tire out even just that 2".

unfortunately, the 05+ rims look better than the 99-04 rims. but you must use those 2" spacers to run them

I like OEM wheels because they are stronger and 99% of the time of better quality than aftermarket.

As long as your spacer is hubcentric and fully centered/flush with the hub, I'd say run them. Lots of Excursion guys run the spacer and tow real heavy. I wouldn't be overly worried about them. Just make sure you buy a quality set
