Well, since my Bronco gets 11.2 mpg on average, I guess I'll skip the watered down gas they are selling. Can't afford to lower the mpg anymore than it already is.

I think Bob took that photo somewhere in Iowa or Nebraska yesterday.

Somewhere the state tax alone on gas isn't over sixty cents a gallon!

Our trip, day 2, Norfolk NE to Liberal, KS

Well, we made progress on day 2, heading back to LA. All well, getting a little over 19 mpg with the 6.0. Strange to not see any hitch hikers on the road these days. Every corner had one or two just a few years back.

These are the real thing, northern NE.

Swedish capital of NE, Stromberg grain elevators

Recognize the picture?

Only the second train we saw all day, trussel in S. KS

The clue from the picture above, in Kinsley KS.

Just a few more pic's

More old buildings, this in Great Bend, KS.

Check out the brick road over the RR tracks in Great Bend.

A carving in the side of a brick bldg. Nothing but brick and mortar out here, not many trees.

One last elevator, I promise, this in Meade, KS.

Headed to Tucumcari tomorrow early as we have lots to see in New Mexico.

Remind me not to buy a slug bug. LOL. Of course, any vehicle can catch on fire (Pinto anyone?) so I guess I'll keep my mouth shut.

I had a '71 Chrysler Town and Country back in the mid '80's when they were the size of aircraft carriers (and called station wagons, not Minivans) and it caught fire in the intersection of Brookhurst and Katella. I popped the hood, saw it was an electrical fire, grabbed a half inch wrench and disconnected the battery, fire went out instantly. Interesting that nobody offered to help me push that behemoth out of the way and into the parking lot. Cause of the fire? One single copper strand from the wire that goes to the alternator (or actually from the alternator to the battery) had come loose and contacted the metal inner fender.

Day 3 of our trip back to Cal

Well, we had another long day, starting in Liberal KS, thru the panhandle of OK, down thru the corner of Texas, across NM, and closing out the day, staying in Holbrook, AZ.
No rain except a couple of drops on the windshield in NM. Finally saw two gal hitch hikers just outside of Albq, NM. First ones this whole trip.
Stopped in Tucumcari, Grants, Gallup, and the Petrified Forest Nat Park.

Hooker OK, interesting stop for some?

Stock yards in Texas with "miles" of cattle. A good place to relieve a little gas with no one knowing. Keep the windows closed.

Now the trains... One after another, unbelievable the amount of product moved.

The railroad station in Tucumcari, NM. What a ghost town on the north end.

A small drill bit to today's standards at the museum of mining at Grants, NM.

The old town bank in Gallup, NM built in 1904, see the top of building.

The painted desert at the Petrified Nat Park. Crazy beautiful.

One of the vehicles used by Fred Harvey to give tours with these open topped vehicles.

Petrified remains of a tree after petrified with levels of silica.

So many more pictures but these were some nice ones to share.

Dummy will know what that old rig is/was.

To me, looks like styling era '28 to '31.

I suspect that this is placed there only to represent the Harveycars, as they were actually custom-built, larger vehicles, though considerably smaller than today's tour buses.

Winslow next, I presume. Get a picture of The Flatbed Ford!
