After a conversation with Sean about availability of summertime mid-week spots at Casitas, Marge and I drove up there yesterday to check it out. Arrived about 2pm. Third in line to get in. With dogs, twelve bucks.
Spent about three hours cruising around, talking to folks setting up for the weekend, taking some photos, and taking notes.
When we went to leave, we had to take the Pilot over curbs "off-road" to get out, the entrances were jammed with folks pulling in for the weekend.
Reminder to self: If arriving on Friday, get there before noon!
While driving around, I had the moon-roof open so I could just stick my hand up and shoot a photo of a likely camp area. That left the camera stashed between my legs on the seat.
After we got out of Casitas, I stopped at the side of the road to go get a couple of bottles of water out of the back. As I swung out of the seat, the little CoolPix fell out onto the pavement. Didn't think much of it at the time.
Back down the hill we went into Ventura, and Marge made a call to a Craigslist ad on a potential travel-trailer buy. We went by to see it (over-priced, heavy, and dingy - not interested at all!) and I took out the camera to shoot a couple of shots.
What 'da heck??? No LCD showing. A close inspection revealed a tiny "ding" that rendered it inop. No more photos for the little L-18 Nikon!
Which is a real bummer, because our next stop was Santa Paula Cruise Night in "Beautiful Downtown". Trey (I think) had mentioned it last Spring, and we had never seen it. Since we were so close, and it was on our way home, we decided to walk it with the dogs.
Pity we did it without a good camera, and Marge's iPhone camera function sometimes gets over-looked, so there's no evidence of having been there. She even got a little enthused about seeing the old stuff, and a little nostalgic about the iron she once drove.
Arrived home to find fleas on the dogs (there's rodents EVERYWHERE at Casitas), but Advantage takes care of them within hours.
And good news:
The LCD in the L-18 is EASY to replace, and is $13 on FleaBay.

Last night was the first time in a few months I wasn't at the SP cruise night, that's a fun little show. I was also up around casitas yesterday with my mom and sister looking at houses for sale around there.
Agree Pop, that Friday traffic coming into Casitas is amazing! Sorry about that little Nikon, but sounds like you've gotta chance at resurrecting. This is Kai Cooper @ 3yrs. Spent the day running in the backyard chasing grandkids. Fantastic weather here and not too muggy. Rented a little Jeep Patriot, not too impressed, but goes from A to B well enough.
I thought Carlisle Truck Nationals was this weekend. Am I wrong?
Is Steve sitting this one out due to Crowley?
Anybody seen a thread?
Pop
Yep, first weekend of August. Thetr are FTE's there, but I don't think it was promoted quite ad much as in past years. Pa. Chapter should have a thread.
As for me, I'm still up here until the middle of nrxt week. The run ended @ 5 consecutive.
Don't know about the fish kill but crossed the Owens in that area a week and a half ago and was pleased to see the "green" now present in that part of the valley.
Amazing what a little water will do.
Now if they can only get Owens lake filled back up.
