True. The front yoke tube, on a one piece driveshaft, slides in and out on the output shaft splines of the 2WD transmission. I just read in my Ford manual where it calls for adding a long life grease to the splines of this slip yoke, also. I have never done this, as usually the fluid in the transmission provides lubrication. I have, however, greased the splines of the slip yoke of my two piece shaft. The noise it made, when dry, did not occur on turns only.

Good catch...I didn't notice that both trucks in the sig are 2x4, not 4x4.
