That would have been embarrassing, Neil, if your truck caught on fire.
Tell me about it and it was in Newark so it would have been a neighboring department that would have responded & those guys would have busted my chops big time!
George, I just fixed the turn signal/brake light on the passenger side of my '86 this weekend. Of course it has been broke for a couple weeks but close enough. I had wiring woes from previous owners trailer lights install. Took some time but it is all spiffy now! Might even buy some new center caps for the 'ol girl, and I don't mean the war dept.!

Had to fix it for you, Steve
On my 86 I started at the socket, worked back to where I spliced in for trailer hook up, then to where the harness was previously spliced for a 5th wheel hook up. Just have to find some ambition to continue.
Got my 97 C Vic back together, moved my 89 wagon up to the garage for a transmission transplant. Now, ready for a nap.

Now that was down right neighborly of you Bro!
Just get under that truck with a bunch of wire, crimp connectors or soldering stuff and some shrink wrap and go for it!
Working on a transmission makes me tired just thinking about it!
Hey Steve, thanks I am still not 100% but getting there. You are correct, the gas tank issue could have been a lot worse. I am going to drop it off at the dealer tomorrow so that they have it there and can work it in when they have a chance.
Just doing some window shopping at the moment. I am hoping to be able to replace my truck before winter, if not, then I will drive it through the winter and see about replacing it next year. Mechanically it is still in good shape, the major issue is rust which is normal for a 12 year old western NY vehicle. I also have over 147K miles on it and I would prefer not to be rushed into buying the first thing that I come across. My last two vehicles I have had them for 12 years or so and drove the 140K + miles on them before a major repair bill comes up.
It usually takes me quite awhile to find what I want. I have never bought new, always to critical of them to pay the big bucks. I do like to see them and really like the last few years of offerings Ford has had. I have thought more about it in the last year than ever before. However, there are still too many under appreciated older trucks waiting for me somewhere outside the salt beltway! It is amazing to think that folks will get more excited to see you pull up in your old truck you payed well under ten thousand for and when a new one pulls in, the response is, oh yeah, they are nice, my friend just got one too! I am not down playing the reliabilty factor of a new vehicle, the war dept often reminds my of it when I am working on my old stuff. But in a sweet way of course. I guess it all comes down to the fact that, that is why they make both chocolate and vanilla!
I too like some of the older stuff out there, but as you mentioned, the reliability issue is the main reason why I like to keep something newer in the driveway. I have owned one new vehicle that I ordered and that was a '92 Chevy Cavalier. Owned that before getting my truck and that car was touch and go when I drove it to the dealer in Batavia where I got my truck from. Other than that, I have always had a used vehicle. Now I would not mind a new truck, I just can not stomach the amount of $$$$ that a new one would run me, which would be around $35-36K for a XLT, crew cab, short bed, 4x4. Nothing really special but just too damn much for my blood. That is why I am looking for one that is a few years old with mid 30K miles on it. It would still have some factory warranty to take care of some issues if they arise.
