Injector Cups Pressed In

I have my truck in the shop getting new injectors. They told me I need to replace the cups and to do so they would have to remove the heads and send them to a machine shop. $3500 to do the job.

Does this sound right?

Thank you for your time and thoughts.

Does not sound right, you DONOT need to pull the heads to replace the injector cups. What shop is telling you this? you might want to get your rig out of there.

It's already been said, but it's worth saying again... Don't let anyone pull your heads to replace your injector cups! I would consider never relying on that shop to fix your truck in any way again in the future after hearing that.

I had all eight replaced by my shop, they did NOT remove the heads. New cups, o-ring, under valve cover wiring harnesses, valve cover gaskets, etc. for less than 1500.00. Find a new shop.

First, there is no reason to replace your injector cups, if they are not cracked or leaking. Second there is no reason to remove the head.

I haven't seen the cups, so I can't say if they need replacement or not. They should be able to show you why they think the cups are bad. I have one local shop that will not do cups with the heads in place, and another that will do it the same way we do it on the forum. By removing the heads, they can feel all warm and fuzzy about the warranty. Anybody who has had a cup job go bad can appreciate why a shop would prefer this method... as long as the customer is willing to siphon the simoleons from their savings.

Did mine in my driveway as well. Tell them to pressurized the coolant system and show you nwhere they are leaking. If they are not cracked then don't do them. Not all of them would be cracked anyway

I agree with all above. Get it out of there. Find someone else or do it yourself.

Agreed, heads 'do not' need to be pulled.
For what it's worth - Here's a video from our favorite person some like to make fun of.
But it's pretty spot on for all the work.

I had a cracked cup that was below the fuel O-ring. The only symptom I had was a loose injector allowed combustion gasses into the coolant. If my injectors were down and sealed, I would not have known unless the crack spread. I discovered mine only after inspecting the cup while pulling reman injectors to install new ones. Snot bubbles ensued.

Thank you all for your great input. I sent a link to this thread to shop to get their feedback. They are doing the work for $150 including parts.

You guys are awesome to say the least!
