EVD & EVM

Okay I've looked everywhere and now I will let the experts chime in. I've got the scangauge II and I know that the EVD and EVM readings have something to do with the EGR valve. However, I'm not sure what they are telling me. What are they suppose to say about the EGR valve health? By the way I am not throwing any codes.

Yes ...Now I wonder what that means as to the function of the valve? One of them either registers 0 or 1 which is closed at 0 and open at 1. Stays closed most of the time. The measured generally reads nothing.

I believe 0=closed and 100=fully open and read in percentages.

I have an EGR delete so it's in still in there to supposedly keep the fan running properly. However, I don't know if it's better to stay closed or open. The EVD has numbers running anywhere from 1 to 33 so far. The EVM never gives a reading, so I guess that means it's closed.

If you have an egr delete, don't worry about what the position is because it is blocked off. If you have a egr system intact the measured number should follow the desired number. Since your EVM never changes I would say its welded shut, or you could have a wire connection issue. I'm not thinking it would be turned off by a programmer since the EVD is moving, but really, the position doesn't matter since you have a delete.

Thanks,
The EGR cooler is welded shut, but the mech left the EGR valve in place because of fan operation. I'm not sure I really understand the relationship, but I trust what he says. So If it doesn't make any difference for the valve what these gauges read, then I'm good with that.

Your mechanic is correct about the fan operation. The relationship between the two is the cooler would normally have exhaust gas present and the valve will control the flow of the exhaust gas.

Does this mean my fan runs less or at slower rpms because no exhaust gas is present?

The EGR electrical circuit needs to be complete for the fan to operate.

Which means the EGR must be connected (plugged in), the actual operation of the EGR does not matter. You could have the EGR port blocked with a plug and the EGR just laying in the valley if you really wanted.

As for seeing a % while running an EGR delete doesn't mean much either. UNLESS the ECM has been updated with later flashes and then a CEL will trigger since there would not be sufficient flow.

Now, even with an EGR delete and running a custom tune, you may still see an EGR desired % (or something along those line) even though the EGR function is turned off in the tune.

If an Xgauge display is blank, either the code isn't input correctly or the gauge is incompatible with your flash version.
