Did a wash and wax today and then crawled around under the truck a bit thinking about winter prep. Noticed that there is a metal piece behind the front bumper (right behind where a front license plate would go) which is totally exposed, does not drain water readily and is showing significant surface rust already. Are others experiencing this issue? Other than fitting a small grille in the opening to reduce element intake what is the best solution? Any ideas how easy it would be to remove this part for a thorough clean and paint?

Totally having same problem. Mine is a 2011 eco xtr with chrome so far I've had all four rims replaced and front bumper replaced under warranty. Now eight months later my front bumper is starting again. Ford chrome absolutely sucks. I've heard that the big are all having same problem. Now the dealer says to wait and see but ford Canada just tells them to buff it out with chrome polish. Hello Ford Canada you cannot wash rust/corrosion off it will just reappear. I would be interested in a class action lawsuit as there is tons of people experiencing same problem. My truck is Krowned yearly and I wash and wax it frequently.
