OT: Heed the C-list warnings!

We had a family trip this weekend to the Texas gulf coast to scatter my mom's ashes at her favorite fishing spot. We found a house on c-list and VRBO. My wife emailed the c-list folks and was given a link to a very professional and legit looking web site. We transferred $1100 via paypal to book the place. When got in to Corpus Christi around 1:30 and were due to meet the guy for keys at 2:00. At 2:15 a white PS pulls up. I like this guy already. We were then told that the house is for sale, not for rent. I immediately knew what happened. The home owners showed up, invited us in, threatened to sue paypal on our behalf, offered us drinks, and let us use their phone. This convinces me I need to move back to Texas. The jerk actually called later that day and said that he had made a mistake and would refund my money on Monday. It is Wednesday and I am still out $1100. At any rate, I am waiting for a Sheriff's Deputy to come file a report. Paypal says that since I initiated the payment there's not much they can do for me other than try to contact the seller. I'm praying we don't have to go to small claims court 'cause the guy didn't sound too "legal" on the phone if you know what I mean. DO NOT transfer money via paypal for anything on c-list no matter how legit it may seem!

that is why whenever you use paypal, you pay through a credit card and not a bank account. if there is fraud involved, the credit card company will reverse the charges.

That's why I always use my AmEx card thru Paypal.

AmEx has refunded my money from an ebay rip-off before Paypal even responded to my charge dispute.

01PS I feel for you bud. I hope you get your money back.

Ditto 3x.

When I buy something on eBay, I pay through PayPal with CC. That way I have eBay Protection, PayPal Protection, and CC Protection. Unfortunately, it's come in handy several times...a pain in the @$$, but at least I don't lose money.
