The Mule was totaled today!

In June in the Black Hills of SD we were hit by tennis ball size hail the day before we left there. State Farm said to get back to them later, so I finally meet up with the adjuster this morning. The Mule got hit pretty good and he said they were going to total it. The Mare had damage too but haven't hear back on that one. The 98 Beetle wasn't totaled but had damage. Just after he left we hit the road for Az so I don't know what is going to happen yet. The adjuster said because it wasn't in a wreak that the buy back is about 25% of the worth of the truck. With all three vehicles I'll come out of it with some pocket change but I don't look forward to arguing with them on the Mule's worth. The adjustor said something about finding similar truck sales to help my case, BS!!!! That's not my job, I know what's its worth just by reading on here about you guys buying trucks.

Whatever you do, don't let them look trucks up near you on craigslist or crap on ebay. They'll base their "fair value estimate" on that, and not on the actual value of the truck. Force them to look it up on a reputable site.

Yeah Gabe, seems like BS to total a truck because it has hail damage. I don't really care though, its just going to be a work truck anyway.

I would just smile and tell them.....I don't care what you think it is worth..

"You just find me a truck just like this one just as good or better." And if you fine one for $500.00. Good for you.

You pay Ins. so that if something does happen you will not be out of your truck, having to start over with nothing.

As far as an Act of GOD...is there a clause in your policy saying that Acts of GOD are only covered at 25%. If not don't budge one bit.

Remember that HE works for the Ins. company and not you. It is his Job to get you to settle as cheap and as fast as possible, that is what he is graded on in his job evaluation performance.

Do NOT be afraid to contact your States Attorney General and Insurance Commissioner about this. Stating that all you want is things to be fair on all sides.

Please, Please do NOT take any money or sign anything until you are satisfied with results of this claim.

Good luck

Very sorry to hear that Glenn. I'd try to keep them from totaling it if it was me. If you buy it back you have to get salvage/branded/rebuilt title. Use this site for prices, its a good one. Nice trucks with realistic prices (if we were selling ours or for insurance purposes!). Good luck Glenn!!

He said the buy-back was %25, not the pay-out. So whatever the insurance company judges the worth of his truck to be when they pay him, he can buy the truck back from the insurance company for %25 of what they give him.

Good luck Glenn. I think I was in that same storm traveling back from Rushmore. Ran parallel to tornados on I90 for some time. Little scary for sure.
