I have a 96 Explorer, 2WD, 4.0 l. I would like to add a tranny cooler to it. We sometimes tow a small camper through mountains. Any recommendations on the appropriate aftermarket product? (I assume the factory unit is out of sight)Anything special I should consider?
B&M seems to be the best value. On the install, make sure you use barbed fittings. The slight flare should ensure the tranny oil hoses stay in place once clamped. You may need to go to http://www.bulkpart.com/
to get the fittings you need (I think they run about $17) and pickup some additional feet of hose if you do that.
Pretty much whatever you do will beat the cost of a stock cooler install.
What he said... Summit has the best selection and great service. If you let them know what you need/want, they will steer you in the right direction. As for the stock cooler, only Explorers with the tow package came with them and they are located on the right side of the radiator in the front. Something else to think about may be a aux filter for the tranny. You can get a kit for that at Summit too.
