I have owned my 98 Explorer XL 4wd (4.0 OHV)for a little over a week now. I need to prep the vehicle to tow my boat. I do not have a transmission cooler or wiring harness on the vehicle. I have read plenty of posts on wiring harnesses but could not find much on tranny coolers.
Can anyone reccommend a good aftermarket tranny cooler?
Where do the rubber hoses from the tranny cooler tie into the transmission?
you should have two steel on your rad , on the drivers side I wve spliced into the steel lines and put after market coolers there .
mount your cooler in frount of your rad should be good
Any cooler from Autozone or Advance will be sufficient for an Explorer. You could get a B&M cooler from Summit, if you want cool window stickers and want to spend some extra $$$. Every Explorer I have seen has a tranny cooler on it due to the weight of the vehicle and the weak transmission. Check behind your grill. You will see the radiator in back, the A/C condensor next, then a little radiator-looking thing. That is your trans cooler. Probably sufficient to tow a boat, unless it's some kinda yacht...
