Ouch, thats a bummer, Check the torque converter hub for wear once you get it down. But before you do all that work, clean it up and drive it around a bit with better coolers, could be a freak occurance.
I have not herd the E4OD blowing front seals out but could happen. Now if its a A4LD from a Ranger,Bronco2/ explorer then a front seal is a common failure......
New info on the overheating issue. I got up early this morning and performed a flow test n my existing system. I recorded about 50oz of fluid in 15 seconds of idling at the return line joint with the transmission. But I also discovered the fluid was a LOT darker than I thought it was. I was previously pulling fluid from the dipstick onto a white cotton rag to judge color. When I saw this stuff flowing into the ice cream bucket I was shocked. It's been nearly 35k miles since my last transmission flush but didn't expect it to be that dark. Sign of heat? It still doesn't. Smell burnt, had my wife smell used and fresh, she said fresh was a little stronger and the used smelled like used oil but not burnt. I have almost no sense of smell so I rely on her for such things. Seal and temperature gauge ordered, transmission jack on the way. Probably change the rear main too while I've got the tranny out.

Image posting... you're doing it wrong ... You can't post the image directly from a site we don't have access to, like your personal DropBox account. Try an image hosting site, like Imageshack (that's my personal choice). Also, check the link for the E4OD mods in my signature, you'll probably enjoy the read.
Lol I'll work on the image posting. I put them in the public folder that I assumed anyone could see. The assumption was not valid apparently. Just a couple of pics of transmission fluid in 100ml beakers. Nothing to write home about.
Did you pull off the pan and see what's inside? May be its time for a rebuild on the tranny as your going to pull it out. Would sux you replace the seal and then something else goes out. Double work there....and I did that on my Bronco2, replaced the front seal, bellhouse bushing and torque converter. 2 weeks later the OD unit blew apart wipeing out the whole tranny.....
Yeah that old stuff is toast. Might as well change the filter while you're in there. No retainer clip for the E4OD filter, so I always fasten it to the valve body with safety wire when I change it.
Update on the transmission overheating. She's all back together. New "updated" front seal, filter (with clip, thanks Encho), larger transmission cooler, and digital temperature gauge mounted on the A pillar in Autometer single gauge pod. Hauled my tractor around for about 50 miles, temp stayed right at 175 to 180. Hopefully I'm in the clear for another 100k... there was a small pile of smudge on the pan magnet but not anymore than I would expect from a transmission with 130k miles on it. Thanks to all for the advice and help.

I'm glad it's finally fixed, you did a lot of improvements to it, it should work happily for a while now. It's also nice you were able to take advantage of my write-up.
