You know those felt washers that reside between the window regulator pins and the window channel. The ones that the manual advises you not to loose . Well I lost them . What would you guys suggest I use in their place ?
I've not made replacements for the washers you mention but I have found that a big heavy sheet of heavy felt can be used to make such washers, pads, etc.
I think they were intended to act as spring washers and take up slack in the mechanism . They were dry as a bone and if you oiled them I suspect they would just attract dust and cause wear or binding . They were there and are mentioned in my manual (the red one)
raytasch I will tell my wife you said I could use some sheet felt from her craft room . Can you advise as to colour please ?
I am not going to go there I bought a yard of the stuff on line quite a few years back. Cheap, even with shipping. I can't remember how many different things I've used it for.
When I replaced a window in my 52 the washers were oiled and extremely flimsy - I took some cloth from the dog's blanket and cutout washers, I ended up using two layers to make them thick enough that I felt comfortable with - Before I installed them I soaked them with 3 in 1 machine oil then squeezed the excess out of them - The "Specs" I used were drawn directly from my butt and how I felt at the moment - That was over a year ago and so far nothing has exploded and the window continues to crank up and down with relative ease.
So looking at the mechanism thru the access panel, they go over the pins and behind the glass channel? I just had mine apart two days ago, and as I recall the pins are about 3/8"? Maybe a nylon washer would suffice? (the High Tech solution!)
