OR, better yet, get a pair of aftermarket heads that flow better than stock 157/112cfm at .500 E7TEs... Even ported E7TEs are maxing out at 183/140cfm. Engines are really just air pumps. The better the cylinder head flow, the more power you'll make. https://www.carbdford.com/tech/flowdata.htm

Yes, back and front of head should have a plug, they are ready available from various sources, like LMR, 1979-95 Mustang Cylinder Head Smog Threaded Inserts 5.0/5.8.

Air bump in exhaust port remove.

If you do away with the AIR pump (smog pump) tube that ran across the back of the heads, you'll likely make your O2 sensors unhappy. I'm not sure how that affects the old EEC-III system any more.

My '89 5.8L Police pkg Crown Vic EEC-III system didn't like me changing things up. I had swapped on a 351W-HO cast iron intake and 351W-HO Holley carb. It originally had a knock sensor in the intake manifold that provided feedback to the EEC-III computer to control the electronic feedback carb and distributor advance. No knock sensor meant no timing control! Let's just say that the timing advance went to 45° above my 10° base timing. Detonation City! It rattled out the new pistons in only 50 miles! That was an expen$ive lesson to ALWAYS check total advance!

Thanks, i would certainly be willing to try if I had the funds.
this is more of a budget job. Make the most with what I've got.

It's funny these heads had busted spark plugs in the back, I think I'm going to have to find a different solution.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind.. the engine in using is an ho with the iron intake and I've got all the accessories except the carburetor And smog stuff.

The truck I'm putting it in was originally fuel injected but had been carb swapped so the only engine harness connected was charging and tach. With an hei vac adv.

Planning on using the dura spark with the ho
