The 351W and 351M both share the same bore and stroke. They are entirely different engine families. They both are considered by some to be a small block to use a Chevy term. The 351M shares the larger 400/429/460 bellhousing pattern required for higher torque capabilities and is a reduced stroke 400. The 351W has the smaller bell housing pattern shared with the 289/300/302. The 351W/M have the same bore spacing and with work, as in machining (search for "Clevor"), a very few parts are interchangeable.

Sorry Sir, that is incorrect. 351W introduced in 1969 for passenger cars only. A 1976 Cougar (same car as a Torino with minor trim changes) could have a 351W (or a 302/351M/400).

1975 was the first year a commercial vehicle received the 351W. It was the standard V8 used in Econolines (460 was optional).

First use of a 351W in a F Series: 1980.
