Hey i have a question. I have a 86 6.9 4x4, it has a c6 auto transmission in it now. I was wondering what parts i need to convert it to standard and how much it would cost.
check your vacuum. the trans needs 19 inches vacuum to shift properly. i bet your vacuum pump is dying. you should see at least 20 inches vacuum from the pump.
the more the better though when it comes to vacuum.
I have a feeling you might be right but how do you check the vacuum and if it has been this way to long could it of damaged the transmission? My truck is starting to shake when in idle and when i push initially on the pedal, it seems to be coming from the trans or bell housing .
no, low vacuum will not hurt the trans, just make shifting points off. it is very easy to test. just hook a vacuum gauge to any of the vacuum lines in the truck.
another hint the vacuum pump is going bad is a hard brake pedal.
Ok i went out this morning and the rattling was my exhaust rattling against the frame right by the trans because the bracket had broke. However the trans doesn't seem right i took out the modulator a month ago and the pin seemed wedged and it was difficult to remove and i did find a huge hole in the main vacuum line i fixed it but it seems like i still have bad pressure so the pump might be bad unfortunately. Do you recommend any place to purchase a vacuum pump or are they all the same?
unfortunately, with everything being made in china these days, quality has been traded for cheap price and it shows in the product.
a new pump is going to run you between $80 and $260.
normal price is around $125 though.
