Hard Shifting

My C6 trans shifts hard until it has been driven for about a half mile or so. Is this normal or can anybody tell me what the problem, I mean opportunity is? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanks

You may need to adjust the VRV (vacuum regulated valve) in the side of the IP. Put a vacuum gauge on the vacuum manifold and see what you are getting from the vacuum pump. There could be a low vacuum due to leaks in lines or the bottom of the juice tin/vacuum reservior.

Could also be low vacuum because the vacuum pump is about to go south.

Is the vacuume manifold on the pump or the canister or somrplace else? I'll try to test the vacuume tomorrow. Anybody know how much vacuume there should be. Thanks for the suggestion.

On my 86 it is mounted on the firewall just to the passenger side of the center of the engine.
